From watching tv, all these ads, over and over again. I don't even watch that much tv, it may be the station..hallmark. Some of these meds have so many side effects, am I sure I need sleep medication when I may be found mowing the front lawn in the rain, while I am not aware of it?

littlered,

I know the side effect portion of the drug commercials are frightening! However it is important to note that a very small fraction of people who take the drug actually GET any of those side effects. It is best to read the actual information provided by the drug manufacturer to get a better idea of the percentages. You can also read the drug info from competing drugs and find the one with the lowest incidence of side effects that worry/trouble you!

Here's hoping you aren't out at 2 am mowing in the rain any time soon...

When we open to this moment and don't judge it or try to change it, even when we're suffering and wish it were otherwise, we tap into the spaciousness of mind that allows us to move forward skillfully, with discernment and joy. -- Sharon Salzberg

I'm with you, littlered.

Of course there are a lot of wonderful drugs for those that really need them. But I balance the side effects with the symptoms of any illness. When the side effects are thoughts of suicide, lymphoma, lung cancer and sudden death, I would back away unless it was essential that I take the medication.

Hah! You should try editing papers at a cancer hospital! Talk about becoming convinced you're going to suffer...
